FIRST COAST QUILTERS GUILD
ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
General Meeting: The general meeting is held on the second (2nd) Thursday of each month at the Clay County Public Library. Some of the activities enjoyed at this meeting are a program, show and tell, door prizes, and 50/50.
Board Meetings: Members are encouraged to submit ideas or suggestions and attend the board meetings, held bi-monthly on the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Board members have lots of fun and some great laughs!.
Camp-Over: Camp-over is a weekend retreat of sewing and friendship! Each campover holds the opportunity to meet fellow guild members in a new setting. Can’t make it to campover, but still would like to get to know other member? Sometimes, classes are held at campover and you can come up for the day for the class.
Classes/Education: Classes on new techniques, projects or methods are offered by Guild members and teachers.
Christmas Party: The December general meeting is a Christmas party with exchange of gifts by members who choose to participate.
Donation Quilt: Each year the Guild members make a donation quilt. This quilt is then raffled at QuiltFest. A portion of the proceeds going to a charity of the Guild’s choice. The winner of the quilt will be drawn at QuiltFest.
FCQG Challenge: The challenge is a project the Guild adopted in 1987 and was so much fun it became a tradition. The challenge lies, not among each other, but within yourself. It was started to see how different quilters put together the challenge fabrics and/or what they choose as an accent with those fabrics. The challenge ends at the August meeting.
Historian: The guild historian takes photos at guild-sponsored events and meetings and documents them in scrapbook form and also places them in an online photo album. Members are also encouraged to send digital photos to the historian of events that they take.
Ladies Day Out (LDO): Ladies Day Out is held on the first (1st) Saturday of each month. This is the place to improve your quilting skills. Members bring sewing machines and other equipment/supplies for hands-s on sewing.
Love Quilts are donated to worthy organizations in February of each year. Members donate completed quilts for this event. These quilts may be any size or design – made by individual members or by several members as a team.
Name Badges: Members are encouraged to make name badges when joining the guild, as they are a great way to get to know other members. Members must wear their fabric-sewn nametag to be eligible for door prize drawings. New members have three months from the date of joining to get their nametags made.
Newsletter: Our monthly newsletter contains articles of upcoming events, information of interest to quilters, and the pattern for next month's "Quarterly Block.” Articles from members and committee chairs must be sent to the editor by the 25th of the month for inclusion in the next month's edition.
Quarterly Block: Each quarter is block pattern is selected and published in the newsletter. For the next three Members bring completed blocks to the following month’s guild meeting, then cross their fingers for luck in winning the drawing!
QuiltFest is an annual cooperative quilt show held in the fall of each year. It is the highlight of the year. Local Quilt Guilds participate in producing this show and each Guild will have a booth from which to sell donation quilt tickets and /or other items and pass out Guild information.
Show-N-Tell: This is the part of the meeting we all look forward to. It is inspiring because of the great ideas we get from one another. Members and guests show off works in progress, tops, completed quilts, and seek advice on color, border, or anything else.
Website: A place to easily access guild information. Find out what classes are coming up and access a schedule of events.
White Elephant sale/Auction is held at least once each year so that all of us who are pack rats can dispose of some fabric, notions, books, and yes even some UFO’s which we find too hard to throw away.
